Black Friday (short film)

An old short film back in 2009 based on accounts of troops fighting in the Battle for SIngapore 1942. In 1942, the Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbun published a photograph of British and Japanese soldiers standing together in Singapore. The undated photograph only has the following remarks - "Japanese soldiers exchange pleasantries with British prisoners of war in Singapore".

Based on true accounts of the war, Black Friday re-imagines the events leading up to the Allied surrender on the 15th February 1942, through the lens of a fictional documentary unit dropped into the final hours of the conflict. We meet five fighting men from both Allied and Japanese forces. They tell us what it was like to be on the front line: trying to stay alive, kill the enemy -- and make sense of what they're doing here in the first place.

Nominated for Best Singapore Short Film in the Singapore Short Film Festival 2010.
